Tour Highlights

Madu River Mangrove Channels

A network of narrow waterways threading through ancient mangrove forest, with a closed canopy overhead and the sound of waterbirds and the occasional splash of a monitor lizard entering the water.

Cinnamon Island Visit

A stop at a family-run cinnamon processing island within the lagoon, where cinnamon bark is hand-peeled using traditional tools in a practice that has changed very little across several generations.

Waterbird and Wildlife Spotting

The lagoon supports kingfishers, herons, cormorants, purple-faced leaf monkeys in the canopy and the large Bengal monitor lizard – a naturalist’s rich destination within easy distance of the coast.

Fish Therapy and Mud Pools

Natural fish therapy pools and warm mud formations within the lagoon system offer an unusual and enjoyable interlude in the journey – a quirky and entirely authentic part of the Madu River experience.

Boat Temple Visit

A floating Buddhist shrine within the lagoon, accessible only by boat – a small, beautifully maintained devotional space that adds an unexpected spiritual dimension to the water journey.
