Tour Highlights

Wild Leopard Sightings

Yala’s Block 1 offers the highest leopard sighting rates in Asia – a resident, vehicle-habituated population observable at close range in a landscape of rocky outcrops, thornbush and seasonal water sources.

Asian Elephant Herds

Family herds regularly encountered at ancient reservoir margins in the morning and late afternoon, moving between water sources across open dry-zone terrain in golden, well-lit conditions.

Sloth Bear Encounters

Yala is one of the most reliable locations in Asia to spot the distinctive sloth bear – most often seen in early morning moving through rocky outcrops and foraging for insects in the dry-zone scrub.

Coastal Lagoon Birdlife

Over 215 bird species use the park’s southern lagoons, including the painted stork, spoonbill, flamingo and sea eagle – making Yala an exceptional birding destination alongside its mammal interest.

Wild Buffalo and Mugger Crocodiles

Large herds of wild water buffalo graze the park’s open grassland, while mugger crocodiles are commonly seen basking on the exposed banks of ancient reservoirs throughout the day.
